Double gold for Aberdeenshire cheese company in international competition

Artisan, organic cheesemakers, The Craigmyle Cheese Company has won two gold medals in the world's largest and one of the most prestigious cheese shows, The Nantwich International.

The small business, which was started 18 months ago and is based in Torphins, Royal Deeside, beat off stiff competition to win the Small Producers’ Soft Cheese category with its quirkily named Wummle, and the Small Producers' Organic Cheese category with its Learney cheese.

Liz and Neil Marchant, the husband and wife team that started the company, were thrilled with their win: "We have won a number of awards for our cheeses since we started the business and every one of those is very special to us. Winning gold at Nantwich International however is particularly satisfying because of the scale of the event and the high standard of competition. This success is down to the whole team at Craigmyle Cheese whose hard work and dedication is second to none."

Since starting the business in December 2005, The Craigmyle Cheese Company has scooped a number of accolades including a British Cheese Award and a Scottish Food & Drink Excellence Award. Most recently the company won the Young Business category of The Grampian Awards for Business Enterprise.

The Craigmyle Cheese Company currently employs eight people at its rural creamery where all cheeses are handmade. The cheese is sold at delicatessens all over Scotland and an increasing number of outlets in England. The company also supplies prestigious restaurants and hotels including Gleneagles and The Balmoral. In addition, The Craigmyle Cheese Company also sells regularly at Banchory and Aberdeen Farmers Markets and at special event such as The Royal Highland Show.
