The Craigmyle Cheese Company of Torphins added another three medals to its collection at this year's Dairy Competition at The Royal Highland Show where the young business was exhibiting for the first time.
Craigmyle's soft cheese, the wonderfully named 'Wummle'; semi-soft Morven and its four month matured cheese, Learney all came up trumps at the event. The company also used the event to showcase its newest cheese, Babbity Blue, a soft and creamy blue veined cheese with a sharp tang.
"We are obviously thrilled that our cheese continues to do well in competitions where we are up against more experienced cheesemakers" said Liz Marchant who set up the business 18 months ago with her husband, Neil. "The Royal Highland Show was an exciting but exhausting experience. The public just loved our products with Babbity Blue proving a real success. Demand for our cheese is increasing all the time – we are only a small business and have limited supply but luckily our customers are supportive and understand that our cheese is handmade and doesn’t just come off a production line."
The Craigmyle Cheese Company produces five cheeses from organic, unpasteurised milk from Aberdeenshire herds. The company now employs four personnel in addition to the owners and is currently recruiting for a fourth person.
