26/03/2006 Deeside cheese company scoops more medals at The Royal Highland Show The award winning Craigmyle Cheese Company, based in Torphins, has been presented with a Silver and a Bronze medal for two of its handmade cheeses exhibited in this year’s Royal Highland Show dairy competition. The young company’s Wummle cheese which is a soft, mould ripened cheese likened to a Camembert was awarded a Silver medal and its hard, mild cheese, Clachnaben, awarded a bronze. Both artisan cheeses are handmade from local, organic, unpasteurised cows’ milk. Husband and wife team, Neil and Liz Marchant who started the business just before Christmas were delighted with their success: “The quality of cheeses that were entered into this competition from all over the UK was very high including some well established names so we are really delighted to receive such an accolade at this stage” commented Neil. The Craigmyle Cheese Company’s Wummle cheese has already won two gold medals this year in the Grampian Food Forum Innovation Awards as well as a Scottish Food & Drink Excellence Award. The Company, which now employs a team of four, was also a finalist in this year’s Grampian Business Awards. The cheese is available for sale in delicatessens, farm shops, hotels and restaurants all over Scotland and is now available in some outlets south of the border.
